Self-initiated
Metrics are approximate. I lost access to internal tools when this role ended, so figures are reconstructed from memory.
The problem
Our paid Meta ads were working, and that created a new problem: comments. On a normal day we received more than 100 of them across active ads, and every one needed a response. Unanswered questions on an ad are lost leads, and unanswered skepticism is visible to everyone else scrolling past.
I owned social media alongside the rest of my growth work. Replying to comments had quietly grown until it took up most of my day, which left less time for the creative and analysis work that actually moved acquisition numbers.
What I did
Nobody asked me to fix this. I started researching tools that could handle first-line comment replies without making the brand sound like a bot.
Once I found a platform that fit, I brought it to the CMO with the case for trying it, and we agreed to move forward.
The real work was training. I built out the knowledge the model needed to reply well:
- Common question types and the right answer for each
- Location-specific responses, since eligibility and details varied by state
- Situational scenarios, so a worried family member and a curious scroller got different tones
Then I kept testing and refining. I reviewed its replies, corrected the weak ones, and fed that back in until the answers were consistently solid enough to trust.
The result
The automation handled comment replies end to end. My role shifted from writing every response to reviewing and cleaning up, which took about an hour a day at most.
That freed most of my working day for higher-value work: producing creative, running tests, and analyzing performance.
What I took from it
The volume problem is a success problem. Comments piled up because the ads were working. Scaling the response had to keep up with scaling the spend.
AI is only as good as what you teach it. The tool itself was not the win. The training by location and scenario is what made the replies safe to publish under a healthcare brand.
Keep a human in the loop. I automated the replies, not the judgment. The daily review meant nothing off-brand stayed up.
